Solitary Vireo?

I know this is a really fuzzy picture, but it's the only one I got of this little bird. It had been hopping around the ground on our patio and hanging out in the trees right outside our windows in December of 2006. It was mostly olive/yellow colored with a white wing bar and small eye ring. It was probably between 4-5 inches with a buff breast.

I thought it might be a solitary vireo after looking for similar birds in our books, but I am not sure. Any ideas?

It looks more like

I think that is an American Redstart. The reason being that if yo look very closely you can see the yellowish sides. Also, the color looks more like an American Redstart.

It looks more like...

a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet than a Vireo especially with the narrower bill and broken eyering. I don't see the ruby crown so it may be a female.

Thank You!

I have been hoping that someone would be able to help me identify this little bird. It doesn't hang around the house often, but I see it periodically in the late fall/early Winter hopping mostly on the ground. I searched through all of my birding books, but could not really find anything but the vireo that I felt it resembled.

I just looked it up in the Audubon Society, Master Guide to Birding, and I don't know how I missed it. You are correct!

Thanks again, and glad to have you as a part of our Bird Peeps community!
