Feed a Red-belled woodpecker?
Submitted by treeclimber on Mon, 12/22/2008 - 18:53.
Hi: We have had a young red-bellied woodpecker screeching in our bradford pear trees for over 2 weeks. He is friendly, and allows my 7 yrold to get within 2 feet of him while climbing the trees...
He is drilling rows of holes in the trees... Is there anything we can feed this bird to vary his diet and calm the screeching?

Red-belled woodpecker
I put a suet block out year round. The red bellied woodpeckers come to the blocks mainly in the fall, winter, & spring. They can ruin your tree though by drilling holes in it.
You could...
You could put out a suet block. i do it in the winter, because in the summer, the suet rots. I love Red-Bellied Woodpeckers.
